SENSING THE SNOW: ARE YOUR FEET THE KEY TO BETTER CONTROL ON SKIS?
February 13, 2017
How well can you sense the qualities of the snow beneath your skis? Do you realise that the best skiers are incredibly good at this, and that it is a factor in maintaining control on the slopes?
Even though your feet are encased in a rigid boot, you really can learn to perceive the changing conditions under your skis, and this can help you to make quicker, more accurate responses to them with your body. However, you might need to learn to “listen” to your feet again.
As one of my clients, a World Cup skier with whom we worked on regaining this ability after injury, said to me later: “I realise that I used to ski in black and white, but now I ski in colour.”
